First, let me state that this may offend some of you. I don’t really care. Not that I’m trying to be antagonistic, I just don’t lose sleep if something I say as a statement of what I believe is possible offensive. This is all theory and conjecture at this point, and even if I am […]

Post-Op Ramblings…
I’m feeling much better today, able to move around with a lot less pain. Now to get back into a more “regular” sleep pattern. I’ve been sleeping most days and up most nights for the last few days, throwing off everyone’s daily routine. My posts have been irregular at best, and I’m feeling like getting […]
Baby Duck (NOT the wine!)
We had a recent addition to the back yard – ten baby duck hatched out last Saturday! Not a bad result from 13 eggs that were in the nest. Unfortunately, we’ve already lost two, I think they slipped into the neighbors yard and became doggie snacks. When I first saw the nest, I was happy, and started […]
I Tried Using Cast Nets for Food, Not Bait
I went to the beach this morning to try my hand at cast-netting some dinner. (Green Deane made it sound easier than I found it to be.) A cast net is a round net with a collar in the center of it, a heavy line stitched to the perimeter, and lines running from the perimeter through […]
INTRUDER ALERT! or “About last night….”
Had a bit of a scare last night. As the wife and I were laying in bed, her asleep, I was reading, I heard a slight noise at the door the opens to the back yard off of our bedroom. As I listened, it grew into a thumping sound, like someone knocking, trying to scare us.
If you don’t like the situation, change your point of view
I ran into this monstrosity in my back yard a while back.
Salt – An Over-looked long term storable and Brining 101
I gave a whole rabbit to SB a week or so ago, and he let me know a few days later that he ended up smoking it whole – something I’ve not yet tried, but wanted to do. One of the things that I was concerned with is that rabbit, being a rather lean meat (but not […]
My take on “Rabbit starvation”
Stumbling around, I came across a very nice website called The Wannabe Homesteader, and found some great info about starting tomatoes. The next day’s post was about rabbits, specifically, Why Rabbit Meat is Not The Best Survival Food. The author raised the question, “..should a person include rabbit meat as a back-up plan for survival situations? […]
First try at Flounder Gigging
I went gigging Sunday morning around 2am. Me, a couple flashlights, and a three prong gig. The plan was to sneak up on some flounder and sheepshead and invite them to dinner as the guest of honor. I’m very glad I went, even if I went alone.
Florida Lobster Mini-Season 2012
Today is mini-season, possibly one of the busiest days on the water all year. I’ve personally caught a few lobsters myself, but I wouldn’t even class my self as a novice. I plan on fixing that this year, as part of my “embrace where you are, she ain’t going to move to WV” attitude.
