Seriously, when I first read about this, I would have sworn it was a joke. But since I grew up in West Virginia (we eat everything!), and I was so poor at one point that I was lucky to get a meal a day (hunger is a POWERFUL motivator!), I figured that I should at […]

Book Reviews: The End and The Long Road (and a Giveaway!)
I’ve been lucky enough to be included on several book reviews as part of online book tours. The tour managers know what kind of books I like..and what I don’t like…now. (I did get my wife involved doing reviews, but only with any books containing sexy mythical humanoids that sparkle in the sun, or “multiple […]
Revistiting Gear Review: Hotsnapz Reusable Heat Pads
Do to the unseasonably (unreasonably?) COLD weather, I thought it timely to repost an article I wrote over a year ago about the Hotsnapz reusable hand warmers. I’ve touched the old review up a bit, and gave it some spit and polish. Hotsnapz are a product that I’ve used for years, and can definitely help out […]
A Favor vs. Money
A month or so ago, I took my wife to see the second installment of “The Hunger Games“, a movie called, “Catching Fire“. It shows a (far-fetched) possible future of class warfare, poverty, and government oppression. The wife & I have both read all three of the books in the series, and found the story […]
Winter Gardening Results in Florida
The day was January 2, 2014. I stopped by a friends house after work to visit, and pick up some goodies he had for me. The temperature was 84 degrees. (if it makes you feel any better, as I write this, less than 24 hours later, it is about 48 degrees!) My friend, Jim, putters […]
A Preppper Game / Tool Review: Conflicted: The Survival Game
I have mentioned before how Prepper Fiction gets me all amped up, and usually makes me have knee-jerk reactions to the story. It was that way when I read the three books by A. American involving a guy stranded 200 miles away from home after an EMP. It also happened after I watch every episode […]
Last Week of the Year – Time to Take Stock
Christmas is right around the corner, and of course New Year’s is right after that. Good old 20013 has almost come to a close. With the holiday season, most of us have a little down time. So instead of sitting around thinking about gnawing on another turkey and cranberry sandwich, or peeling off one more […]
Top 5 Christmas Gifts Every Prepper Should Have
Let’s face it, being pragmatic about Christmas isn’t any fun. However, if times are tight, it might be a good idea to approach gift giving in this frame of mind. Not many folks like getting socks or underwear for Christmas…but almost everyone that does CAN use them….so is it wrong to give a gift that […]
Book Review – The Survivalist Series and a Giveaway
To celebrate the release of ESCAPING HOME, the latest installment in A. American’s The Survivalist Series, I was asked by TLCBookTours.com if I was interested in reviewing the latest in the series. I asked a few questions, and was given answers that seemed to almost be custom-made for me. The story is based in Florida. I […]
Hog Harvesting
First, let me tell you that this is NOT a “How-To”, it is simply an “I Got to” article. Also, this will include graphic details and pictures. This is about turning a live animal into food, start to finish. We took healthy animals, in an environment we controlled, and ended up with food we could […]
