A Round Tuit

We all make plans of some sort. Some of us are better at the follow-through than others, and some of us, well, we just suck as it. “Procrastination” is our lifeblood. We’ll get started on that project as soon as we get a little more money…when we feel a little better…after the weather cools down….when the parents leave..when the kids leave…after the holidays…

…you know, “I’ll get around to it eventually.”

Inaction is a horrible way to spend ANY time. “He who hesitates is lost.” ‘Countin’ flowers on the wall‘ doesn’t improve you in any way. “I can start tomorrow” is just an excuse.

Well, guess what…today is yesterday’s tomorrow. Get off your ass and DO something to make your life better…

One of the times in my life when I was pretty low – recently divorced, living out of a paper bag, no future, no plans, no job…..I saw a movie with my best friend, a guy who’s always had my back. In my 43 years, I’ve never had a better moment of seeing the right thing with the right person before. I won’t get philosophical and tell you it changed my life…but I never forgot it, and not long after, things started to improve. Coincidence? Maybe…But I think the human spirit looks for avenues to accomplish things… I needed to hear this at that point in my life.

The CDC had an ad campaign regarding zombies, “Get a kit. Make a plan.” (I’m currently reading “The Walking Dead” graphic novels on my Kindle, zombies are on my mind!)

So let’s stop stagnating, and move forward….turn the plans you have into action. And do it now.

So here it is, the thought to start your weekend. Call it your own “round tuit”.

This was mostly directed at myself for sitting on my ass. I have things that need to be done, and I KNOW that. By putting this out there, I’m calling myself on the carpet, something I’ve come to believe doesn’t happen to any of us enough anymore, we are no longer held responsible for our own actions. Take control of your life, no one can do it for you, and every second wasted is a second you’ll never get back. Stop reading my bullshit and go get that things done you’ve been avoiding. And don’t bother thanking me for the push, thank yourself, YOU did it.

Now go get `em.

Peace,
db

PS- Thanks to my buddy in Dallas for always being there.

  1. Profound movie for me as well. I actually have a wooden round tuit that I purchased at Burdines 5 and dime, in WV. It’s with me always… As are your words with me today and hopefully tomorrow…Thanks, my friend.

  2. The ONLY reason we have our bitty garden is because of Brian. If it were up to me, it would NEVER happen. I’ve been the worst procrastinator my entire life. It’s sickening, really. I’m a perpetual planner and never doer.
