Today is mini-season, possibly one of the busiest days on the water all year. I’ve personally caught a few lobsters myself, but I wouldn’t even class my self as a novice. I plan on fixing that this year, as part of my “embrace where you are, she ain’t going to move to WV” attitude.
I have a couple locals that are the real-deal lobster catching machines. One of them actually complains about how many he has in his freezer. Tough life, eh? The other, BlueTang, I’m pretty sure has been diving since before the ocean was salty…And since he & I tend to get each other into “projects”, I’ll probably talk him into some hare-brained schemes involving ocean diving off of our kayaks to get some lobsters. We made a half-hearted attempt last year, and saw quite a few fatal flaws in our plans.

Some how-to:
Due to the large number of loonies out on the water for mini-season, I’ll probably only venture into the river with my kayak to try a few spots. Plus I don’t have a powered boat, and I’m not complaining about that. I consider them about the same as a pool, better to have a good friend with one you can use from time to time, rather than having one yourself. And while I did have a few offers, I’m not much for tagging along with just anyone, probably part of my paranoia.
Plus, letting some of my boat-owning buddies know I got lobster in the river from my kayak will be quite the bragging story…and EVERY fisherman loves to brag….
So wish me luck, and here’s to hoping you limit out as well, if you go. But do me a favor…don’t run roughshod over some Hillbilly floating around in his kayak….thanks 😛
